Frog Lake → Almost to Timberline Lodge Miles Today ≈ 8 Miles | Total Miles ≈ 44.5 Miles
We were a little worried today about the hike due to the elevation profile, but it was pretty easy going overall. Today was a hike of beautiful forests and views. We passed over The Old Barlow road, part of the Oregon Trail and then Highway 35 which was very scenic. We got to camp around 1pm, not long after having apple peanut butter wraps for lunch. Our campsite tonight is right by a bubbling stream (a little closer than PCT regulations). Rinsed our clothes and hung them out to dry (along with our soaked tent).
At first we considered moving our campsite to a spot closer to Timberline Lodge so we could drink beer and fill out the rest of our afternoon but we changed our minds and decided to stay and take on the challenge of attempting to “do nothing” the rest of the day, which, at first is harder than it seems.
Putzed around, hung up the bear bag and had freeze dried chili for dinner (amazing). Finished dinner with tea and a short hike up the trail to see what awaits us tomorrow morning. We saw a pack of deer, and went to sleep when it started getting dark out.
