Sunday, August 25, 2013 | Day 2

South Pinhead Butte → Timothy Lake Miles Today ≈ 17 Miles | Total Miles ≈ 24.5 Miles

We awoke this morning to a bright red/orange sunrise through the trees. It rained a bit throughout the night. Coffee and peanut butter whole grain bagels for breakfast.

We met a hiker named Persistence and another couple who were thru-hikers.

We surprised ourselves today by hiking 17 miles, eight miles further than we planned. The trail has been a gentle downhill slope through lovely forest. We stopped for lunch under major power lines. While eating we saw our first thru-hikers of the PCT. The hills were difficult but we made it through the day in good spirits. It’s been raining a lot, first off and on, now consistently for the past two hours.

Currently, we’re warm and dry in our Hubba Hubba tent and full of hot food and wearing dry clothes. We got into camp around 4pm and set up our tent by the lake. The camp host let us camp for free in the woods next to his RV. It feels odd to be at a developed campground after sleeping in such a remote site last night. We had potatoes with cheese, bacon and Frito’s for dinner (aka “The Spud-Bomb”) and we shared tea and chocolate. We are now tried and our shoulders are sore. We will go to sleep before 8pm tonight.
